DESCRIPTION
The plant pathogen Rhizoctonia solani is a well known cause of "damping-off" and "crown and root rot" in sugar beet. This study is designed to implement the early detection of R. solani and as well to investigate interactions with the beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii. The aim is to detect and to quantify soil pathogens by non-destructive measurements. For this reason canopy reflectance measuring hyperspectral sensors were used. Specific vegetation indices were calculated from hyperspectral reflectance and symptoms caused by the organisms could be discriminated. Also with aerial hyperspectral sensors a classification of symptoms in field trials was possible. Additionally to this, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance imaging was used for non-destructive investigation of interactions between H. schachtii and R. solani. Futhermore, greenhouse experiments were done to investigate interactions of R.solani and the stem and bulb nematode Ditylenchus dipsaci.
